A Rhode Island driver was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after going the wrong way on Interstate 495 causing a Massachusetts motorcycle accident in Norton.
Three motorcyclists were injured when a Rhode Island driver entered a northbound lane going south on I-495 near the Plain Street overpass. A 38-year-old Brockton man was thrown from his Suzuki and sent to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two other bikers – one from Rhode Island and the other also from Brockton – were also thrown from their motorcycles and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver has been identified as 69-year-old Hilda Fzala of East Providence, Rhode Island. Fzala has been charged in the motorcycle accident with driving her Toyota under the influence of alcohol resulting in a serious injury. Fzala is also facing charges of negligence, failure to keep marked lanes, driving the wrong way on a state highway and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
